Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. .
Makeup to me is a wonderful creation by man, inspired by God. (lol) From those little strokes of my mascara wand on my forever curly lashes to the lovely soft swipes of  my NYX lipstick to my lips and oooohhh the Foundation dabbing, I almost forgot the “always awaited” Highlighting part. (shiny shinning shining… yeaa..) (sorry for the break in transmission) Though I’m not that “everyday makeup girl”, I really admire makeup and it’s process. It’s revolution to me, over the past decades and centuries, is mind blowing.  Beauty/Makeup has really revolved over the years worldwide. This post will  showcase 10 BEAUTY FACTS THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. Grab your popcorn/popcorn substitutes, let’s get to the mind blowing facts.
1.First of all, The cosmetic industry is a $160 billion-a-year global industry. The global beauty industry is growing at more than 7% a year, more than twice the rate of the developed world’s GDP. Americans spend more each year on beauty than they do on education.
2.In the Igbo Tribe of Nigeria, “Uri” and “ufie” (carmine) were used by young ladies to draw beautiful ornamental patterns on their bodies. Over time, Tanjele (a substitute for the present day “kajal”) was used on the eyelids. Tanjele also has medicinal use for the eyes. Camwood was also used by the traditional Igbo people as powder, was applied lightly on their body.
3.Lash Lure, a brand of mascara in the 1930s, painfully killed one woman and permanently blinded several others. Note that It was made from a highly toxic substance called “paraphenylenediamine”, a chemical used for tinting leather and clothes.
4.Roman women would use ‘belladonna’ (“pretty lady”) drops to dilate their pupils in an attempt to make themselves appear more beautiful and sexually aroused. Unfortunately, the drops were poisonous, with such adverse effects as visual distortions, increased heart rate, inability to focus and, with prolonged use, death.

5. Lipstick first appeared approximately 4,000–5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia when women ground precious gems into dust to decorate their lips.

6. In ancient Egypt, cosmetics were an integral part of hygiene, health, and ritual. Pills and creams protected against the sun and dry winds, and oils were used in perfumes in religious rituals. Beauty was regarded as a sign of holiness. Cleopatra when setting sail, used a trail of perfume ahead of sail to announce her arrival.

7. During the 1400s, a pale complexion was the major trend among women. To achieve this look, some women bled themselves, either by using leeches or slashing their veins in a method called “cupping.” Also during this time, women would apply ceruse to their faces and bosoms to appear paler. Unfortunately, ceruse was made from not just vinegar but powdered lead, which rapidly ate away the skin and caused lead poisoning, hair loss, mental retardation, and even death. In an effort to maintain a porcelain complexion, young women in 18th-century Spain would eat clay, even though it could lead to anemia or chlorosis (an iron deficiency that may cause a green tint to the skin).

8. Coal tar was used as en eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, and mascara during the Elizabethan era. Unfortunately, it not only smelled bad and was flammable, but it also caused blindness. Also during this era, it was believed that lipsticks had supernatural powers. Even Queen Elizabeth died wearing a lipstick. Queen Elizabeth II commissioned her own lipstick shade to match her coronation robes at the 1952 ceremony. The soft red-blue was dubbed “The Balmoral Lipstick,” named after her Scottish country home.
9. Whale vomit, or whale poo (a.k.a. ambergris), is often found in fancy perfumes because it helps other fragrances last longer. It costs as high as $200 per gram.
10. In the 18th century, women would shave off their eyebrows and use gray mouse hair instead. Grecian women in 3000 B.C. would use oxen hair as fake eyebrows.
BONUS FACTS:
* Shaved armpit was not a trend till around 1915.
*George Washington would sometimes wear lipstick, a powdered wig, and makeup
*During the Middle Ages, women in Europe would paint their faces white, pluck their eyebrows (sometimes completely!) and shave or pluck their hairlines higher. Remember Leonardo DA Vince’s Mona Lisa.
